Milan snatched three important points from its host Pisa after winning 2-1 with them on Friday at the opening of the 25th round of the Italian League, continuing to pursue its rival, leaders Inter.
Milan was unable to maintain its lead with a goal scored by Englishman Ruben Loftus-Cheek with a header (39), as German substitute Niklas Volkrug missed a penalty kick six minutes after entering (56), then suffered an equalizer after Chilean Felipe Loyola scored a goal with a shot from inside the area (71).
But veteran Croatian midfielder Luka Modric scored the second from inside the area (85), before his French teammate Adrien Rabiot was sent off after receiving two yellow cards within a minute (90+2).
Milan now has 53 points in second place, compared to 58 for its rival Inter, which will meet Juventus on Saturday.
On the other hand, Pisa's balance, which still hopes to avoid relegation, froze at 15 points in last place, six points temporarily behind safe seventeenth place.
