Arsenal have qualified for the UEFA Champions League final for the second time in their history, and for the first time in 20 years, after winning 1–0 at home against visitors Atletico Madrid on Tuesday.
Bukayo Saka scored the only goal for the London side in the 44th minute of the match played at the Emirates Stadium, giving the English team a 2–1 aggregate victory over the two legs.
The two teams had drawn 1–1 in the first leg, which was held last Wednesday at the Wanda Metropolitano in the Spanish capital, Madrid.
Arsenal, seeking a first European title in their history, will now await the winner of the clash between reigning champions Paris Saint‑Germain and German side Bayern Munich in the final, which will be played on 30 May in Budapest.
Arsenal had lost 1–2 to Barcelona in their first Champions League final appearance back in 2006.
Meanwhile, Atletico Madrid failed to reach a Champions League final for the fourth time in their history, having already lost three previous finals in 1974, 2014 and 2016.
