Saudi clubs are no longer content to sign stars in the twilight of their careers. The latest figures show that Al Hilal and Al Ahli now hold contracts for young talents valued by the same standards applied to prospects at Porto, Ajax and Sporting CP. Four players from the two clubs have entered the list of the 100 most valuable under-20 players outside Europe's Big Five leagues, led by Al Hilal striker Kader Meité, sixth worldwide with an estimated value of €33.5 million.
The ranking comes from the CIES Football Observatory, part of the International Centre for Sports Studies, in its Weekly Post No. 556, based on data as of 1 October 2026. It covers players aged 20 or under whose contracts are not held by clubs in England, Spain, Italy, Germany or France, with transfer values calculated through a statistical model built on variables related to the player and his contract.
European summit, Saudi breakthrough
Polish winger Oskar Pietuszewski of Porto, aged 18.3, tops the list at €56.3 million despite a recent injury. Belgian midfielder Jorthy Mokio of Ajax follows at €52.9 million, with Wolverhampton winger Mateus Mane third at €46.1 million, his club competing in the English second tier according to the ranking's data.
Portuguese midfielder João Simões of Sporting CP is fourth at €43.2 million, followed by Botafogo winger Álvaro Montoro at €39.3 million. Sixth is Kader Meité, Al Hilal's 18.9-year-old striker, valued at €33.5 million, the highest-rated talent at any Saudi club.
The top ten is completed by Shakhtar Donetsk striker Luca Meirelles (€32 million), Ajax defender Aaron Bouwman (€30.4 million), Anderlecht striker Mihajlo Cvetković (€28.8 million) and Shakhtar midfielder Isaque Silva (€27.9 million).
When an Al Hilal striker ranks ahead of names from Shakhtar, Ajax and Anderlecht, clubs that built their reputations on developing and selling talent, this is no passing statistical footnote. It signals that the Saudi Pro League has begun entering a market it was absent from only a few years ago.
Four names, four positions
The Saudi presence goes beyond Meité. Malian midfielder Ibrahim Diaby of Al Ahli, aged 19.5, is valued at €12.7 million, while Al Hilal winger Sabri Dahl, aged 18.5, is valued at around €12.3 million. Al Ahli's second entry is Gambian centre-back Abubakr Sidi Kinteh, aged 19.8, valued at €8 million, with a contract running until June 2031.
The combined value of the four players stands at €66.5 million: €45.8 million for Al Hilal (Meité and Dahl) and €20.7 million for Al Ahli (Diaby and Kinteh). Notably, the four cover every line of the pitch: an out-and-out striker, a winger, a central midfielder and a centre-back. Three of them are tied to contracts running until June 2031, while Meité's deal expires in June 2029.
This is where the most important reading lies. A long contract is what gives an estimated value real weight at the negotiating table. A club that holds a 19-year-old's contract until 2031 owns an appreciating asset, not merely a squad member. Meité's comparatively shorter deal, however, puts the question of renewal on Al Hilal's desk early, before a shrinking contract term turns into pressure on his value.
Arab presence and the North American factor
Among Arab players, the list includes Tunisian striker Rayan Elloumi of Vancouver Whitecaps, competing in MLS, valued at €11.3 million with a contract until December 2030.
The ranking also reveals how wide the talent map has become. The 100 players are spread across 24 leagues, led by MLS with 13 players. Value creation is no longer the preserve of the traditional schools of Europe and South America; clubs from Saudi Arabia, the United States, Ukraine, Belgium, Portugal, Brazil, Argentina and beyond are now competing to own the contracts of players whose prices are expected to rise.
Value is not price
These figures must be read with discipline. The Observatory's methodology is entirely statistical, used to estimate current value and to model future scenarios, serving transfer negotiations, contract renewals, loans and release clauses, as well as asset valuation in club sales and acquisitions. But they remain estimates, not fees paid or formal offers. The actual price is set by negotiation, the buyer's need and the seller's circumstances.
Even so, this list gives Saudi clubs something they previously lacked: an international, data-based indicator that some of their young players' contracts are assets of value in the global market. The challenge is no longer signing talent, but developing it, giving it minutes, and managing its contract with an investor's mindset. Value that is not protected on the pitch melts away in the next table.
