Barcelona edge closer to La Liga title with 2–0 win over Getafe

Barcelona moved one step closer to clinching the La Liga title with a comfortable 2–0 away victory over Getafe on Saturday in matchday 32, opening up an 11‑point gap over their nearest rivals, Real Madrid.

After Real Madrid dropped points in a 1–1 draw with Real Betis the previous day, Barcelona seized the moment to extend their lead, with Hansi Flick fielding a largely controlled and efficient team that kept Getafe away from their goal for the entire 90 minutes.

The Catalan side now sit on 85 points from 32 matches, just five fixtures away from the end of the season. They need only five more points from these remaining games to secure the trophy mathematically, and could even wrap it up as early as the next matchday if they beat Osasuna away while Real Madrid lose.

The title climax would be even sweeter if Barcelona clinch the crown in matchday 35 when they host Real Madrid at Camp Nou on 10 May, assuming Barça win this coming week and Flick’s side maintain their form.

Team changes and dominant performance

This was the first match Barcelona played without young star Lamine Yamal, who faces a season‑ending injury, and also without Brazilian forward Raphinha. Nevertheless, Flick’s side recorded their 28th league win of the season, while Getafe remained on 44 points in sixth place, now in danger of slipping out of the top‑six race.

Barcelona’s 2–0 triumph also extended their winning streak to four victories in a row across all competitions.

Match‑winning goals

In the 45th minute, substitute Fermin Lopez curled a beautiful finish into the net after a long pass from Gavi (substituted in at half‑time) opened up the defense, putting Barcelona 1–0 up on the stroke of the break.

In the second half, English winger Marcus Rashford made sure of the three points with a clinical finish in the 74th minute, following a swift counter‑attack started by Robert Lewandowski, who played a precise long pass to find the Englishman in a one‑on‑one situation with Getafe goalkeeper David Soria.

Other La Liga result

In the day’s other notable fixture, Alavés edged past visiting Real Mallorca 2–1, adding further color to the final‑run‑in in Spain’s top flight.
