Bayern stage stunning comeback to beat Mainz 4–3 ahead of PSG clash

Bayern Munich mounted an incredible comeback after going three goals down to beat Mainz 4–3, as substitutes Harry Kane and Michael Olise spearheaded a dramatic second‑half turnaround for the Bundesliga champions.

Mainz surge in the first half

Mainz opened the scoring early through Dominik Kohr, then added two more goals via Paul Nebel and Sheraldo Becker before the break.

Bayern, who had rotated eight players from the team that won the German Cup semi‑final against Bayer Leverkusen three days earlier, failed to register a single shot on target in the first half, leaving them in a dire position at the interval.

Substitutes spark the revival

At the start of the second half, Bayern coach Vincent Kompany introduced Kane and Olise. The impact was instant.

English striker Nicolas Jackson pulled one back in the 53rd minute, then Olise doubled the comeback with a fine finish in the 73rd. Midfielder Jamal Musiala drew the sides level with a cold‑blooded strike in the 81st, setting the stage for the final twist.

Just two minutes later, Harry Kane, the league’s top scorer this season, struck his 33rd Bundesliga goal of the campaign, completing the 4–3 turnaround and sealing Bayern’s ninth consecutive victory across all competitions.

Psychological boost before PSG showdown

The result served as a powerful psychological boost ahead of Bayern’s Champions League semi‑final first leg against Paris Saint‑Germain, reinforcing the squad’s belief in their ability to overturn difficult situations.

The performance also highlighted the importance of Bayern’s bench, with Kane and Olise proving once again that they can change the course of tight matches in the decisive moments.
