Cunha wakes Old Trafford as Manchester United stun Roma in three minutes
The visitors led 2-0 inside 17 minutes, but Bruno Fernandes’s penalty revived United and Matheus Cunha’s late double turned the night around in the Champions League’s fourth round.

Manchester United 3–2 Roma
Some matches are decided by detail and others by will. Tuesday night at Old Trafford was firmly the second kind. United were two goals down before the 17th minute and looked to be heading for another evening of reckoning. They refused to accept it and won the game in the final seven minutes.
Roma started as though they already knew where United were vulnerable. Matías Soulé opened the scoring after 11 minutes, and six minutes later Donyell Malen coolly converted a penalty to make it 2-0. Old Trafford fell silent. It was partly shock, but it was also the silence of a crowd that has seen this script too often in recent years: a fragile start, and a defence exposed by the first serious pressure.
The story did not end there. United had to wait until the 58th minute for an opening, when Bruno Fernandes stepped up and scored from the spot. That goal changed more than the scoreline. It gave the home side permission to believe, and from then on the tempo changed and the stands came back to life.
Then it was Matheus Cunha’s turn. He equalised in the 83rd minute and put United ahead in the 86th. Two goals in three minutes erased an hour of Roman control. Cunha was brought to Manchester to give the attack a boldness it had been missing, and this was the clearest evidence yet of why.
Roma will leave with one question: how does a side throw away a two-goal lead away from home in the Champions League? This was less a tactical collapse than a psychological retreat. A team that began with aggression and initiative spent the second half guarding what it had, and in this competition the teams that only defend a lead usually pay for it.
United take three valuable league-phase points, and something more important: confidence. The lesson is clear, though. A glorious comeback cannot rescue a disastrous start every time. If this side wants to go far in Europe, it must learn to begin matches the way it finished this one.
