A Growing Football Power, but an Underwhelming Appointment

Saudi football today stands at a level unmatched in the Arab world and across Asia. The Saudi Pro League has become a global destination  a league filled with elite players, diverse coaching schools, world‑class facilities, and unprecedented investment. It is a league that competes with Europe in quality, ambition, and visibility.

And yet, despite all this progress, the national team finds itself under the leadership of Georgios Donis — a coach whose profile does not reflect the scale of the Saudi football project. This raises a fundamental question: Where is the vision? Where is the long‑term plan?

Where Is the National Team Project?

The real issue goes beyond Donis himself. It lies in the absence of a clear, long‑term national team strategy.

A modern football project requires:

  • A defined playing identity
  • A coach with international pedigree

  • A development pathway for young talent
  • Stability and continuity
  • A vision aligned with the ambitions of Saudi football

Without these elements, the national team will always fall short of its potential.

Saudi Arabia Has Everything… Except the Right Coach

The Kingdom possesses:

  • Elite players
  • A world‑class domestic league
  • Massive institutional support
  • A passionate fan base
  • Infrastructure that rivals Europe

But all of this loses value if the national team is entrusted to a coach who cannot elevate the squad to the level expected.

Saudi Arabia needs a leader who matches the ambition of its football revolution — not a temporary solution.

The Problem Is Not Donis… It’s the Decision

Donis is not a bad coach. He is simply not the coach for Saudi Arabia.

The real concern lies in the decision‑making process: How can a football project of this magnitude settle for a coach who does not reflect its ambitions?

Saudi football deserves a manager with vision, authority, and international credibility someone capable of transforming the national team into a global contender.
