Ukraine’s Elina Svitolina, ranked 10th in the world, captured the 1000‑point Rome tournament title for the third time in her career, beating the world No. 4 American Coco Gauff 6–4, 6–7(3–7), 6–2 in the final on Saturday.
After a marathon match lasting 2 hours and 49 minutes, the 31‑year‑old returned to the podium in Italy’s capital for the first time since 2018, when she won the title in back‑to‑back seasons; that had been her last of four 1000‑point crowns before today.
Gauff, meanwhile, fell in the final for the second consecutive year after losing in 2025 to Italy’s Jasmine Paolini. Svitolina had previously won the Rome title in 2017 and 2018 and now stands at 8–0 in WTA 1000 finals on clay, having never lost a final on the surface.
With this victory, Svitolina improved her head‑to‑head record against Gauff to 4–2, having won all three of their 2026 encounters, including earlier wins in Melbourne and Dubai before the Rome final.
