Real Madrid Ends the 2025/2026 Season with a 4–2 Victory Over Athletic Bilbao

Real Madrid concluded their 2025/2026 campaign in La Liga with a 4–2 home win over Athletic Bilbao on Saturday, in the final round of the competition.

The match was played in a relaxed atmosphere for the hosts, as rivals Barcelona had already secured the league title weeks earlier. The night at the Santiago Bernabéu also marked an emotional farewell for full-backs Dani Carvajal and David Alaba, who played their final match for the club.

Real Madrid opened the scoring through García in the 12th minute, before English star Jude Bellingham doubled the lead in the 41st minute. However, Gorka Guruzeta pulled one back for the Basque side in first-half stoppage time.

In the second half, French forward Kylian Mbappé restored Madrid’s two-goal cushion with a strike in the 51st minute, while Moroccan international Brahim Díaz added a fourth in the 88th minute. Oier Zarraga scored Bilbao’s second goal in the 90th minute.

Real Madrid, who finished the season without winning any major titles, ended their league campaign in second place with 86 points, recording 27 wins, 5 draws, and 6 losses.

Meanwhile, Athletic Bilbao—who still had a slim chance of qualifying for European competition—remained stuck at 45 points in 12th place, with 13 wins, 6 draws, and 19 defeats. The Basque club closed the season on a disappointing note, having lost their last four league matches.
