FCSB and CFR Cluj ended the derby of the Superliga stage in a 1-1 draw, a duel that did not excel in intensity and chances, animated only by the two lightning goals at the start of the second half. The "Railwaymen" had a quarter of an hour of superiority, but without materializing this advantage.
Three days after clashing with the "red devils" and with a first "11" somewhat more rarefied in value, the red-blues started a "fiery" month of February against the rivals with whom they have fought battles in the last decade.
With different moods - some still under the "spell" of the match against United, others pressured by the tensions and discussions that have arisen lately in the club - FCSB and CFR Cluj met in a duel perhaps not as spicy as in recent history, but certainly with implications at the top of the standings.
First half
Without Bîrligea and Șut, two exponential footballers, in addition to the already known absences Olaru and Lixandru, Charalambous had to resort to some less spoken names lately, see Chiricheș, Băluță, Ștefănescu. Not to mention Toma, thrown into battle after Musi became unavailable at the last moment.
CFR, also with some absences, Tachtsidis, Fica and Simao the most important, approached the start of the match with great caution, aware that an offensive-kamikaze attitude could cost her not only the points, but also Dan Petrescu's job.
With Florin Tanase in the role of conductor, the hosts sought to open the spaces, look for gaps and speculate on possible vulnerabilities, but the Cluj team had no visible cracks. Dominated, but without faltering, CFR was content to neutralize any offensive attempt of the champions, without threatening Târnovanu's goal in the slightest.
The rhythm was not convincing, on the contrary, the "fireworks" were completely absent on the Arena, where the first shot on goal came in the 20th minute, when Hindrich had no emotions at Mihai Popescu's long-range attempt. Practically, the only moment that brought the guests' goalkeeper out of "unemployment".
Colțescu, indifferent to the Chiricheș - Munteanu contact
By the break, Petrescu had some additional migraines: first he lost Abeid, injured and replaced by Bolgado, then he "boiled" on the sidelines in the 37th minute, when Louis Munteanu asked for a penalty for contact with Chiriches. Colțescu, however, let the game continue, although there were premises for a penalty kick.
The half to be forgotten ended with a mini-chance of the "railwaymen", a Munteanu header saved without problems by Târnovanu.
It was easy to anticipate that there would be repercussions after 45 minutes so dubious in expression, so at halftime he left with "sacrificed". Stefanescu, Baluta and Toma did not return to the pitch, Cisotti, Edjouma and debutant Stoian were called upon.
Soon came a fourth, unplanned change, after Ngezana "broke" and gave way to Dawa. No more introductions and formalities, the long-awaited portion of football has finally arrived!
CFR moved the scoreboard in the 52nd minute, as a result of Louis Munteanu's scoring phase. Petrescu's "Nouarul" in great shape ridiculed Mihai Popescu and elegantly sent over Târnovanu. Class execution of the top scorer in the Superliga and 11,000 supporters silenced.
