Frank Lampard has been voted Manager of the Year in England by his fellow coaches, after leading Coventry City back to the Premier League for the first time in a quarter of a century.

Coventry topped the Championship table with an 11‑point lead over their closest rivals, playing an attractive, attacking style of football that restored the club’s identity and excitement.

Lampard — the former England and Chelsea midfield star — beat seven other nominees, including Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, to win the Sir Alex Ferguson Trophy during the League Managers Association ceremony held yesterday (Tuesday).

Manchester United’s legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson praised Lampard, saying:

“Your personality as a coach and leader is clearly reflected in your team’s performances. Coventry played wonderful football this season, with great confidence and self-belief. I truly enjoyed watching them.”

Meanwhile, Spain’s Mikel Arteta was named Premier League Manager of the Year, after guiding Arsenal to their first league title in 22 years. In the women’s game, André Jeglertz won the WSL Manager of the Year Award, after leading Manchester City to the league title and reaching the FA Cup final in his first season in charge.
