Omar Marmoush masterclass propels Eintracht Frankfurt to thrilling 4-2 victory over resilient Kiel
Omar Marmoush scored twice and assisted twice as Eintracht Frankfurt defeated Holstein Kiel 4-2 in a thrilling Bundesliga encounter, maintaining their strong start to the season. Shuto Machino's brace wasn't enough for the hosts as they still seek their first ever Bundesliga win.
The match started with both teams feeling each other out, but it was Frankfurt who gradually took control. In the 25th minute, the deadlock was broken with Omar Marmoush receiving the ball on the left flank, dribbling past several Kiel defenders, and unleashing a left-footed shot that beat the keeper at the near post. It was a moment of individual brilliance that set the tone for Marmoush's exceptional performance. Kiel, however, showed great resilience and fought their way back into the game. In the 31st minute, they were awarded a penalty after a clumsy challenge by Robin Koch on Lewis Holtby. Shuto Machino stepped up and confidently dispatched the spot-kick, levelling the score.
The second half was electric from the off. Frankfurt quickly regained the lead just two minutes after the restart. Marmoush turned provider, whipping in a dangerous corner that found Igor Matanović in the box. The young striker rose highest and powered a header past Timon Weiner to make it 2-1. But just three minutes later, Machino struck again to level the scores. A corner from Kiel wasn't properly cleared by the Frankfurt defense, and the ball fell to Machino on the edge of the box, whose first-time shot flew past Santos, nestling in the bottom corner. But once again, Marmoush took center stage. In the 65th minute, the Egyptian forward received the ball on the left side of the box after a failed clearance from Kiel, created space and fired a shot that took a slight deflection off Carl Johansson, finding the net at the near post. Not long after, the game was put beyond doubt when Marmoush dribbled into the box and squared it to Tuta, who finished from six yards out.
The visitors come away from their trip to the north as deserved winners. Kiel did well to come back twice in the fashion they did but the unplayable Marmoush was the difference between the two sides today. The striker is in scintillating form, grabbing himself two goals and two assists today. He finishes matchday five as the Bunesliga's leading goalscorer, and Frankfurt make it four wins in a row now. Kiel will have to wait for that all-important first win
