Napoli returned to winning ways and temporarily climbed to the top of the Serie A standings with a 3-1 victory over Atalanta on Saturday in Round 12 of the competition.
Napoli, who had lost to Bologna in the previous matchweek, increased their tally to 25 points in first place, just one ahead of second-placed Inter Milan. Inter could reclaim the top spot if they defeat fifth-placed AC Milan in the Milan derby on Sunday. Roma, currently fourth with 24 points, will also play Cremonese on Sunday and could temporarily go top before the Milan derby if they win.
On the other hand, Atalanta, who played their first match under new coach Raffaele Palladino following the departure of Croatian Ivan Jurić, remain stuck on 13 points in 13th place.
Brazilian David Neres scored Napoli's opening goal in the 17th minute, before adding a second in the 38th. Just before halftime, Noa Lang made it 3-0. Atalanta's only goal came from Gianluca Scamacca in the 52nd minute.
