Paris Saint-Germain crowned French league champions with a two-goal win at Lens

Paris Saint-Germain officially clinched the French Ligue 1 title for the fifth straight season and the 14th time in their history when they beat hosts and closest challengers Lens 2–0 on Wednesday in a postponed match from the 29th round.

Georgian Khvicha Kvaratskhelia (29') and substitute Senegalese player Ibrahim Mbaye (90+3') scored PSG’s goals. The capital club only needed a draw to secure the title, after effectively sealing it on Sunday with a 1–0 win over Brest in the 33rd and penultimate round.

The Paris side stretched their lead to nine points over their nearest pursuer, Lens, whose only consolation this season remains second place and qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League. They still have a chance to finish the campaign with a trophy when they face Nice in the French Cup final on May 22.
