Pyramids FC revived their hopes of winning the Egyptian Premier League this season by thrashing title‑holders Al Ahly 3–0 on Monday, in the fourth matchday of the title group.

After a goalless first half at the Al‑Defa’ Al‑Jawi Stadium in Cairo, Pyramids surged ahead with two goals from their Congolese striker Wiston M’ayili in the 70th and 77th minutes.

Between those strikes, VAR disallowed an Al Ahly goal scored by Mahmoud Hassan “Trezeguet” in the 73rd minute for offside against his teammate Achraf Bencharki, who played the decisive pass.

Karim Hafez then sealed the 3–0 victory by converting a penalty kick in the 94th minute, capping a commanding performance.

Pyramids repeated their earlier dominance over Al Ahly this season, having already defeated the “Red Monster” 2–0 in the first‑leg clash, effectively pushing Al Ahly out of realistic title contention.

With this win, Pyramids reached 47 points in second place, cutting the gap with league leaders Zamalek to just three points, after Zamalek were held to a goalless draw against Enppi earlier the same day.

Al Ahly stayed stuck on 44 points in third, with their chances of challenging for the title now extremely slim; they also face a tough battle to secure one of the slots for participation in the next season’s CAF Champions League, with a difficult upcoming clash against Zamalek this Friday.

League format note

The first half of the Egyptian Premier League season was played with 21 clubs, from which the top seven teams qualified for the title group, while the sides placed from eighth to 21st entered the relegation group.

All points earned by the clubs in the first half were carried forward into the second half, now split into the title‑race group and the relegation‑fight group.
