Al Gharafa retain Qatar Amir Cup
Al Gharafa retained the Qatar Amir Cup thanks to a hat-trick from their captain Yacine Brahimi, as they crushed league champions Al Sadd 4-1 at Khalifa International Stadium on Saturday. The result denied Al Sadd a domestic double this season.
Tunisian Ferjani Sassi opened the scoring in the 21st minute with a powerful strike after a fine move and assist from Ahmed Al-Jahni, before Brahimi made it 2-0 in the 27th minute from close range after a cross from Sassi.maspero
Al Sadd tried to respond, with Claudinho forcing a save late in first-half stoppage time, but Brahimi added Al Gharafa’s third in the 63rd minute after a long pass from veteran Icelandic midfielder Aron Gunnarsson.
Substitute Deiverson reduced the deficit for Al Sadd two minutes from time, but Brahimi completed his hat-trick a minute later with a fierce strike from inside the box after a cross from Amro Siraj. He was named man of the match.
