Madrid win at Getafe to stay in LaLiga title race
Arda Güler's solitary strike clinched the points for our team, who have now kept three consecutive clean sheets in the league.
Real Madrid kept pace with Spanish league leader Barcelona on Wednesday with a 1-0 win at Getafe ahead of the rivals' meeting in the Copa del Rey final.
Arda Güler scored a first-half goal for Madrid, which moved back within four points of Barcelona. The Catalan club edged Mallorca 1-0 on Tuesday.
M
adrid coach Carlo Ancelotti used many reserves ahead of Saturday's Copa final in Seville. Brazil forward Endrick made his first Spanish league start with the club, and Vinícius Júnior was substituted in the second half. Jude Bellingham came off the bench in the second half.
Midfielder Eduardo Camavinga had to be replaced with an apparent muscle injury in the final minutes and is doubtful to be available for Saturday's final.
Madrid had demoralizing losses in both "clasicos" against Barcelona this season - 5-2 in the Spanish Super Cup final and 4-0 in their first league encounter at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium.
Güler scored the winner with a well-placed right-footed shot in the 21st minute at the Coliseum in Getafe.
Real Madrid made no mistake in Getafe, picking up another three points in the fight for the LaLiga title. Ancelotti's boys delivered a disciplined display from start to finish, sealing the win thanks to Arda Güler's strike midway through the first half. Our team have kept clean sheets in all of their last three league games, and can now turn their attentions to the Copa del Rey final.
Our boys carved out the first real opportunity of the game with just six minutes on the clock, as Arda Güler sent a long ball in behind the defence for the onrushing Valverde, whose beautiful chip just failed to find the target. Ancelotti's side were at it again when Vini Jr. pulled the ball back from the by-line on 18', and Fran García's decent effort was well kept out by Soria. The goalkeeper was helpless three minutes later though, when Arda Güler picked up a loose ball on the edge of the box, ghosted past Terrats with a nice piece of skill and whipped the ball into the back of the net with his right boot.

Real Madrid could have doubled their lead prior to the break. Alaba picked out Endrick with a fine long ball on 32’, the Brazilian controlled well and linked up with Vini Jr. to race through one-on-one with Soria. His shot beat the goalkeeper, but Djené got back brilliantly to clear off the line. Six minutes later, Brahim tried his luck with a fierce drive from the edge of the box and Soria just about managed to repel it with his fists. As the teams emerged for the second period, Getafe looked to press higher up. Real Madrid nearly took advantage with 56 on the clock, as Endrick enjoyed another one-on-one against Soria, but this time the goalkeeper came out on top. The hosts hit back two minutes on, Coba's cross being met by a powerful Álvaro Rodríguez header that flew over the bar.
Chances
From that point, the game became a frenetic, end-to-end affair. Brahim's nearly took advantage, but his measured effort from inside the D on 60' was well tipped behind by Soria. Seven minutes later and the goalkeeper was called into action again, this time to deny Vini Jr., who had left Domingos D. and Alderete in his wake and found room for a shot. On 73', Getafe had a great chance when Borja Mayoral sent Arambarri up against Courtois, but the Uruguayan's left-footed strike failed to find the target. Ancelotti's boys were able to hold onto their lead until the end, even playing with ten men for the full six minutes on injury-time after Camavinga was forced off with a knock, with the coach having made all his substitutions.
