Real Madrid Defeats Ferencváros in Friendly Match in Hungary
Real Madrid claimed a 2–1 victory over Hungarian side Ferencváros on Saturday in a friendly match held in Budapest as part of the Spanish club’s preparations for the new season.
Mario Rivas opened the scoring for Real Madrid in the 42nd minute with a header, capitalizing on a cross from Álex Siria. New signing Carlos Espe added the second goal in the 49th minute after receiving a pass from Federico Valverde.
Mohamed Kodro reduced the deficit for the hosts in the 57th minute, finishing off a cross from the right flank. Portuguese coach José Mourinho made several changes in the second half, bringing on Vinícius Júnior, Rodrygo, Antonio Rüdiger, and Bernardo Silva, who played his first minutes in a Real Madrid shirt.
The Spanish giants maintained their lead until the final whistle, securing their second win of the preseason. They are set to face Deportivo La Coruña on Wednesday, followed by a match against Schalke later this month.
Before the game, a ceremony was held at St. Stephen’s Basilica in Budapest to honor the memory of Real Madrid and Hungarian football legend Ferenc Puskás.
Real Madrid was represented at the ceremony by José Ángel Sánchez, the club’s CEO, and Brazilian legend Roberto Carlos, who placed a bouquet of flowers at Puskás’ burial site.
Puskás joined Real Madrid in 1958 and remained with the club until 1966, scoring 242 goals in 262 matches. He won three European Cups, five La Liga titles, the Intercontinental Cup, and the Copa del Rey.
