Some matches are settled by tactics; others by nerve. In Gruia on Sunday night, nerve wrote the final line. CFR Cluj spent seventy minutes with a firm grip on the game, loosened it for a single moment, and watched Dinamo București climb out of the rubble with two goals in three minutes. The visitors left with a point that tasted like victory — and a lead at the top that never wavered.

First Half

Marius Șumudică set his side up with a back three and a crowded midfield, designed to choke Dinamo’s strength through the centre. The visitors had the ball, but held it like a key without a door. On 26 minutes, from Cluj’s first incisive move, Andrei Cordea collected Christopher Braun’s pass on the edge of the area and drove a low, placed finish beyond Bellaarouch — a cold, clinical strike from a player enjoying an outstanding season.
Dinamo’s best reply came in stoppage time, when Zandbergen’s header was comfortably held by Vâlceanu.

Second Half

Everything seemed to follow Șumudică’s script. On 61 minutes, centre-back Cristian Ignat rose highest from a corner and headed home to double the lead, leaving the league leaders facing a genuine test of identity.
Yet the set pieces that brought Cluj their second goal soon turned against them. On 78 minutes, from a Dinamo corner, captain Cătălin Cîrjan pulled one back. Before the hosts could regroup, substitute Tarbă delivered an inch-perfect cross from the right, and Dutch striker Dean Zandbergen headed in the equaliser (81'). Four minutes undid seventy.

Turning Point

Cîrjan’s goal was more than a consolation — it was a crack in Cluj’s confidence. A side that had played with maturity all evening took a psychological step back and paid for it immediately. On the other bench, the introduction of Tarbă proved the decisive call, supplying the cross that restored parity.

Line-ups

  • CFR Cluj (3-4-3): Vâlceanu – Gelashvili, Ignat, Pantalon – Braun, Omic, Perianu, Ziblim – Cordea, Drazic, Șfaiț.
  • Dinamo București (4-4-2): Bellaarouch – D. Irimia, Fetai, Stoinov, Opruț – Armstrong, Soro, Mărginean, Cîrjan – Zandbergen, Karamoko.

Player of the Match

Cristian Ignat (CFR Cluj): A decisive goal, defensive authority throughout and dominance in the air  the backbone of Cluj’s resistance before the late collapse.

Post-Match Reaction

Șumudică made no attempt to hide his frustration, insisting his side had the game in hand and followed the plan, and that conceding twice in a matter of minutes after leading 2-0 past the 70th minute was deeply disappointing. He again pointed to his team’s vulnerability at set pieces.
Cordea said Cluj had shown maturity and that Dinamo, despite their possession, created little  but admitted the team “fell apart completely” after the first goal without understanding why.

League Implications

Dinamo București remain top of the Superliga on 30 points, while CFR Cluj stay ninth on 17  a position at odds with the history of a club long accustomed to having the final word in Romanian football.

Cluj left with a point that felt like a defeat; Dinamo left with a point that felt like a win. The difference lies not in the scoreline but in character: true leaders are measured not by what they do when ahead, but by what they do on the edge of the abyss.
