The Orlando Magic, competing in the National Basketball Association (NBA), announced on Monday the dismissal of their head coach Jamahl Mosley, following the team’s elimination by the Detroit Pistons in the opening round of the Eastern Conference playoffs, despite having led the best‑of‑seven series 3–1.e
Orlando exited the playoffs for the third consecutive year in the first round. The eighth‑seedd Magic not only lost all three opportunities to advance beyond Detroit—who occupied the top seed—but also suffered a particularly painful defeat when they held a 24‑point lead in the second half on their home court and then lost the game.
That collapse likely sealed Mosley’s fate, even though the elimination was finalized by their loss to Detroit in Game 7.
Jeff Weltman, the club’s President of Basketball Operations, said:
“We appreciate Jamahl for everything he has done for the Orlando Magic. We thank him for his leadership and the valuable contributions he has made as the team’s head coach.”
Mosley ranks as the third‑winningest coach in Orlando Magic history, with 189 victories, trailing only Brian Hill (267 wins) and Stan Van Gundy (259 wins).
