Benjamin Sesko was the match-winner again as Manchester United fought back to beat Crystal Palace 2-1, with Maxence Lacroix sent off after opening the scoring.

Lacroix's excellent header gave Palace a fourth-minute lead at Old Trafford, as they threatened to deal Michael Carrick his first defeat across two spells as Man Utd's interim boss.

However, the Palace centre-back later received a straight red card for dragging back Matheus Cunha and preventing him from breaking through on goal, with Bruno Fernandes dispatching the resulting penalty in the 57th minute.

Fernandes then supplied the assist for Sesko's downward header eight minutes later, as the Slovenian followed up his winner at Everton on Monday with another decisive moment.

Man Utd climb to third in the Premier League, leapfrogging Aston Villa, while Palace stay 14th, but with a 10-point buffer to the relegation zone.

How the match unfolded

The home fans were stunned into silence from Palace's first corner of the game, as Lacroix shrugged off Leny Yoro to nod Brennan Johnson's delivery into the far post.

With Man Utd struggling to build any momentum, Palace carved out another opportunity in the 12th minute, but Ismaila Sarr's shot was too close to Senne Lammens after some clever build-up play.

A Harry Maguire header almost deflected in as Man Utd woke from their slumber, though they still went into half-time 1-0 down after Dean Henderson denied Fernandes and Casemiro nodded wide.

However, the game changed when Lacroix tugged Cunha down just inside the area, with the Palace defender seeing red for the denial of a clear goalscoring opportunity following a VAR review, and Fernandes made no mistake from the spot.

Palace were always likely to face an onslaught, and they could not hold on for long as Sesko powered Fernandes' cross into the bottom-right corner.

Henderson parried Casemiro's volley and Amad Diallo's drive to deny Man Utd a third goal, but those stops proved inconsequential as the hosts cruised to victory.
