Álex Márquez, rider for Gresini Racing, won the sprint race at the Catalan Grand Prix on Saturday, edging pole-sitter Pedro Acosta by just 0.041 seconds in the closest sprint finish in MotoGP history.
In a thrilling battle at the front, Márquez overcame the disappointment of last year’s sprint at the Barcelona-Catalunya circuit—where he crashed while leading on home soil—to secure his first sprint race victory of the season.
Fabio Di Giannantonio of VR46 Racing finished third, while championship leader Marco Bezzecchi (Aprilia) placed ninth, earning just one point.
Meanwhile, Jorge Martín, who had trailed Bezzecchi by one point before this round, now sits two points behind his Aprilia teammate heading into Sunday’s main race.
