Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka has kept the WTA world No. 1 ranking for the 81st consecutive week, despite a narrowing gap to her closest challenger, Kazakh Elena Rybakina, after Sabalenka’s quarter‑final exit at the Mutua Madrid Open 1000.
Sabalenka lost 785 points, dropping to 10,110 ranking points, while Rybakina sits second with 8,555 points.
Movements in the top tier
There was a swap in the rankings between Polish star Iga Świątek and American Coco Gauff, as Świątek moved up to third place even though she withdrew from Madrid due to illness, benefiting from Gauff’s fall to fourth after the American failed to match her run to the 2025 final.
The new top‑ten order sees:
-
Jessica Pegula (USA) in fifth,
-
compatriot Amanda Anisimova in sixth,
-
Russian Mirra Andreeva in seventh,
-
Italian Jasmine Paolini in eighth,
-
Canadian Victoria Mboko in ninth,
-
and Ukrainian Elina Svitolina in tenth.
Kostyuk’s massive jump
Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk recorded a huge leap up eight positions to No. 15, the best ranking of her career, after winning her first WTA 1000 title in Madrid, where she defeated Mirra Andreeva in the final.
