Bayern Munich spoiled Wolfsburg legend Alexandra Popp’s farewell party on Thursday, crushing her side 4-0 to retain the German Women’s Cup title.
Popp will leave Wolfsburg after 14 years to join Borussia Dortmund, but she was unable to add her 14th Cup title (twelfth with Wolfsburg) as Bayern proved too strong.
Popp started and played the full match, and with her departure Wolfsburg lose the star of the team. Her honest character and strong presence had long brought sparkle and brilliance to a Wolfsburg side that sometimes struggled.
