Maradona’s name recently appeared in the news due to judicial developments after the trial was canceled last May regarding the circumstances of his death, with a new date set for March 2026.

The trial, targeting seven healthcare workers regarding their potential responsibility for his death, was canceled after two and a half months of hearings following a scandal involving a judge who secretly collaborated in producing a documentary series about the case.

The judge was dismissed last week by a committee composed of her colleagues.

Maradona’s eldest daughter, Dalma, wrote on Tuesday: "Dad, you will get the justice you deserve, I promise," referring to the trial set for March 17.

Maradona’s children announced at the end of 2024 a project to build a mausoleum in the heart of Buenos Aires as a memorial site to house his remains, which are currently in a private cemetery outside the capital.

However, the project, originally planned for 2025, will not be implemented before the judicial procedures conclude, according to sources close to the case.

Maradona died at the age of 60 on November 25, 2020, from a heart attack during a recovery period after undergoing neurosurgery.

Five years after his death, messages poured in on Tuesday honoring Argentina’s legend Diego Armando Maradona from the football world and his family, who still await justice regarding the circumstances of his departure, with the trial rescheduled for next March.

The Argentine national team wrote on its account on X platform, "Only those who are forgotten die, and you, Diego, we remember you every day," referring to the star who led his country to victory in the 1986 Mexico World Cup and reached the final of the next edition in 1990 in Italy.

The reigning world champions of 2022 added in their message, "Five years have passed," adding in the video clip attached to the post: "5 like the number of English players you deceived" before scoring the "Goal of the Century" in the quarterfinals of the 1986 World Cup, and "5 like your fingers" that helped him score in the same match.

His former club Boca Juniors wrote: "People leave, days, months and years pass. Everything disappears except you, you remain forever," accompanied by a video of fans placing flowers at a statue of the player in the Bombonera Stadium museum.

As for Argentinos Juniors, the club where he started, it wrote: "We see you, think of you, dream of you," among dozens of messages from clubs, players, and the South American Football Confederation on the fifth anniversary of his death which saw no official ceremonies.
