Galatasaray Open Away Campaign With a Ruthless Four-Goal Rout of Erzurumspor

Turkish Süper Lig (Trendyol Süper Lig) - Matchday 2 Kazım Karabekir Stadium, Erzurum - August 21, 2026

Defending champions Galatasaray faced little resistance on their trip to Erzurumspor, taking control of the match from the opening minutes and settling the contest with clinical efficiency. The "Lions" cruised to a comfortable 4-0 away win, kicking off their away campaign in style on Matchday 2 of the Turkish top flight.

The match started in stark contrast to how it would end, with Erzurumspor pressing high and dominating possession in the opening exchanges. That spell of control did not last long. In the 12th minute, the visitors took the lead through Hungarian international Roland Sallai, who pounced on a rebound from a corner kick to fire the ball home and hand his side an early advantage that reshaped the entire course of the game.

Galatasaray kept up the pressure, doubling their lead through Yunus Akgün in the 20th minute, capitalizing on a swift counter-attack sparked by a lay-off from Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen. The away side found themselves two goals to the good before the quarter-hour mark had even passed.

The "Yellow-and-Reds" wasted no time extending their advantage further, with Osimhen pouncing on a defensive error by Erzurumspor goalkeeper Orbanic to slot the ball home right before the halftime whistle, making it 3-0 and effectively ending any hopes of a home comeback.

In the second half, head coach Okan Buruk made four substitutions in one go in the 66th minute, bringing on Eren Elmalı, Wilfried Singo, Lesley Ugochukwu, and Leroy Sané for Sallai, Jakobs, Lemina, and Akgün respectively  a notable change, as it marked Ugochukwu's official debut in an Istanbul club shirt.

The fourth goal put Osimhen's stamp fully on the match, as he converted a cross from Brazilian teammate Gabriel Sara in the 79th minute for his second goal of the night his fourth in the first two matches of the season, a striking start that underscores his physical and technical sharpness heading into the new campaign.

For the hosts, Erzurumspor tried to pull one back late on, and came closest through Azerbaijani forward Nariman Akhundzade in the 77th minute, before he was later shown a yellow card in the 84th minute, unable to break the deadlock.

With this result, Galatasaray get an early boost in their title defense, reaffirming the attacking strength that defined the club last season, as they prepare to host Göztepe in their next fixture. Erzurumspor, meanwhile, will need to address their defensive vulnerabilities ahead of the coming rounds.
