The Portuguese coach will leave the club at the end of the current season, having notified the club’s management of his decision, according to sources from the Portuguese newspaper A Bola.
Jesus believes this is the right time to end his coaching stint in Saudi Arabia. He announced his decision ahead of the AFC Champions League 2 final, which takes place today (Saturday), a day on which he could also be crowned Saudi league champion if Al-Hilal fail to beat Neom.
The same sources confirmed that the Portuguese coach already has several offers on the table, but he does not intend to decide his future until after the end of the current season.
Additionally, the sources revealed that Jesus has already scheduled a meeting with Turkish club Fenerbahçe in Lisbon at the end of May to discuss their offer.
According to A Bola, the Turkish club’s interest is highly appealing to Jesus, as it would allow him to earn the highest salary of his career, surpassing the €15 million he received while coaching Al-Hilal.
At 71, Jorge Jesus will not be short of options due to the number of offers available, and it is expected to be a busy summer for the veteran coach. Meanwhile, there is growing speculation within Portuguese football circles that he is the preferred candidate of Portuguese FA president Pedro Proença to replace Roberto Martínez after the World Cup, should the current national team coach step down.
