Harry Kane Eyes Lewandowski's Bundesliga Record After Bayern's 3-2 Win Over Dortmund
Harry Kane, Bayern Munich star, is aiming to break Robert Lewandowski's single-season Bundesliga record of 41 goals after netting a brace in Bayern's 3-2 victory over Borussia Dortmund on Saturday.
Kane raised his tally to 30 goals after 24 matchdays, marking his fourth straight game with at least two goals. Asked about surpassing Lewandowski's mark from Bayern's 2020/21 season, Kane replied: "Of course I want to, but I need to keep performing at my best."
He converted another penalty, reaching 10 successful spot-kicks in the Bundesliga, bringing his total to 45 goals in 37 matches this season for the 32-year-old.
With 10 games left, Kane said: "There are many matches remaining, but we must stay consistent. We'll see if I can achieve it in late April or early May—it's a challenge, and I must stick to my duties."
Kane recently celebrated 500 career goals for clubs and England.
Lewandowski broke Gerd Müller's 1971/72 record (40 goals) with a last-minute strike in May 2021. Kane emphasized the Bundesliga title race isn't over despite Bayern's 11-point lead over Dortmund: "We were ahead by 11 points a few weeks ago, and things can change quickly in two matchdays—we must stay focused."
