Saudi Fencing Makes HistoryKhalifa Al-Omari Writes His Name in History with an Unprecedented World Bronze MedalHe defeated an Olympic champion and engraved his name among the legends.Saudi national fencing team player Khalifa Al-Omari achieved a historic milestone by winning the bronze medal in the Men’s Individual Épée event at the World Fencing Championships (Senior category) held in Hong Kong.This is the first-ever medal for the Kingdom in the history of its participation in World Fencing Championships, making Saudi Arabia the second Arab country (after Egypt) to win a world-level medal in men’s fencing.Al-Omari fought his way to the podium with an outstanding campaign. He defeated Flavio Giannot from Luxembourg in the round of 64, then overcame Korean Heumin Jang in the round of 32, before beating Italian Simone Mincarelli in the round of 16.In the quarter-finals, he continued his remarkable run by eliminating Japanese star Koki Kano  the Olympic champion and winner of three Olympic medals  with a score of 15-12. This victory secured Saudi Arabia’s first-ever medal at the World Championships. He then lost in the semi-final to Swiss fencer Lucas Malcot, settling for the bronze medal.This achievement is Al-Omari’s third medal in just one year, following a silver medal at the Gulf Games and a bronze at the Islamic Games. He continues to write a new chapter in the history of Saudi fencing.
