Cameron Burgess scored the crucial goal as Town secured a huge three points away at Coventry City this evening.
The Australian international struck on 69 minutes, putting the Blues back in front after Town had seen Kieffer Moore’s early goal cancelled out by Haji Wright.
Manager Kieran McKenna made three changes to his side for the visit to the CBS Stadium, with George Edmundson, Nathan Broadhead and Moore all coming into the starting XI and Luke Woolfenden, Conor Chaplin and George Hirst moving to the bench.
Vaclav Hladky started in goal, with Axel Tuanzebe, Edmundson, Cameron Burgess and Leif Davis all starting in front of him.
Skipper Sam Morsy was in midfield alongside Massimo Luongo, with Burns, Omari Hutchinson and Nathan Broadhead supporting Moore.
Both sides looked to get the ball down and play from the off, with Town having the first attend of the evening when Hutchinson drove inside and let off a shot with his right foot which Brad Collins able to hold.
Town were soon rewarded for their good work down the right flank as, after Burns had been freed for a second time, the winger was able to pick out Welsh international colleague Moore, who did the rest by slamming past the goalkeeper to put the Blues in front.
McKenna’s side needed Luongo and then Burgess to make big blocks to stop Coventry attacks, with Edmundson then producing an excellent piece of defending to stop Haji Wright.
The hosts kept pushing, with Ben Sheaf firing over the top and then a goalmouth scramble seeing Burns turn an effort off the line before Wright looked to slam home the rebound, only for Hladky to push over the top of the bar.
Town withstood the home pressure to maintain their lead as the two sides headed in at the break, but could have doubled their advantage with their final chance of the half, when Burns crossed for Broadhead to head powerfully towards the net. Collins produced the save, though.
The first chance of the second half went the way of the hosts, with Josh Eccles driving wide from outside the penalty area, before the Blues saw a Moore header from a Davis corner drift just past the post.
After a break in play which saw referee James Bell replaced by fourth official Dean Whitestone, Broadhead rattled the Coventry crossbar as Town looked to pounce on a Sky Blues error at the back, before needing to do some defending of their own.
The leveller soon came, though, with Wright finding space in the box and driving the ball through Hladky and into the back of the net.
Hirst and Jeremy Sarmiento had been waiting to enter the contest prior to Wright’s equaliser and replaced Moore and Broadhead immediately after, as Town set about trying to get themselves in front again.
Sarmiento quickly forced a save from Collins, latching onto a loose ball on the edge of the box, with Hirst then having an opportunity as he saw his shot blocked by the goalkeeper after being slipped in behind.
