Nice secured their place in the French top flight after defeating Saint-Étienne 4–1 on Friday in the second leg of the promotion/relegation playoff.
Both teams failed to capitalize on their chances in the first half, which ended goalless.
In the second half, Nice scored four goals through Clauss and Kaillou Bodash in the 62nd and 81st minutes, and Eli Wai, who added two goals in the 87th minute and in stoppage time. Saint-Étienne’s only goal was scored by Zuriko Davitashvili in the 79th minute.
The first leg had ended in a goalless draw, allowing Nice to secure survival with a 4–1 aggregate victory.
Nice had finished 16th in Ligue 1 with 32 points, while Saint-Étienne placed third in Ligue 2 with 60 points.
