Many distinguished Brazilian players have played in the Premier League, but none have ever scored more than Igor Thiago in a single season.

The 24-year-old striker scored twice for Brentford in the team's 3-0 win over Sunderland on Wednesday, bringing his total to 16 goals a season in the league.

This is the largest number of goals scored by a Brazilian player in the English Premier League in one season, according to statistics company «Opta».

Thiago surpassed former Liverpool striker Roberto Firmino, Arsenal winger Gabriel Martinelli, and Matthews Cunha, the former Wolverhampton striker who is now at Manchester United, who each scored 15 goals in one Premier League season.

Gabriel Jesus, Richarlison and Philippe Coutinho are among other prominent Brazilian strikers who have played in the English Premier League.

It is noteworthy that Thiago is playing his first season as a main striker for Brentford following the departure of Ivan Toney, Brian Mbiumo and Yoann Wessa.

Thiago has never played for the Brazilian national team, but he is seeking to be included in the team's roster that will participate in the World Cup, which will be held in America, Canada and Mexico this year.
