US President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that he will attend the FIFA Club World Cup final next Sunday in East Rutherford, New Jersey, at a time when the International Federation (FIFA) announced the opening of an office in Trump Tower in New York.The expanded Club World Cup, contested by some of the world's best teams, is widely seen as a pilot tournament for the 2026 FIFA National Team World Cup, which will be hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico with the participation of 48 national teams.Sunday's Club World Cup final at MetLife Stadium will be a showcase of the tournament's atmosphere next year.This stadium, which is a stronghold for the New York Jets and New York Giants, competitors in the American Football League, will also host the 2026 World Cup final.Trump told reporters: «I will attend the final».
This news comes one day after FIFA President Gianni Infantino announced the opening of a representative office in Trump Tower, where the Club World Cup will be displayed until the final match.Infantino said: «We received great support from the government and from President Trump through the White House working team for the Club World Cup (so far) and the FIFA World Cup next year».Trump did not stay away from the sporting spotlight during his second term, as he became the first serving president to attend the NFL Super Bowl final in February.However, US President Trump's immigration policies have raised concerns ahead of the 2026 World Cup even as Infantino gave assurances that the US would welcome football fans from around the world during the quadrennial event.
