FIFA announced that the winners of the upcoming World Cup final between Spain and Argentina, scheduled for next Sunday, will receive championship rings in addition to the trophy and gold medals — adopting a long‑standing American sports tradition for the first time in the history of FIFA competitions.
According to FIFA, 30 specially crafted rings will be presented to the winning team immediately after the final at New York New Jersey Stadium. The team captain and head coach will receive temporary versions right after the match, while the final customized rings — designed to reflect the identity of the champions — will be delivered at a later date.
One side of each ring will feature the World Cup trophy, while the other side will carry details specific to the champion.
The players’ rings will be part of a limited edition consisting of 2026 individually numbered pieces, with 1996 rings made available for fans worldwide as officially licensed products.
Championship rings are a deeply rooted tradition in major North American sports leagues — including the NFL, NBA, MLB, and NHL — but they have never before been awarded in any FIFA competition.
